Restrictions on Viber access to be lifted from midnight

The restrictions imposed on access to Viber will be lifted from midnight tonight, the Government information department said.

The Government also said that restrictions imposed on other social media networks in Sri Lanka will be lifted soon.

The restrictions were imposed after it was found that social media was used to spread hate among the communities in Kandy recently.

Communal clashes broke out in Kandy last week with several Muslim owned property being attacked. (Colombo Gazette)

International travel ban imposed on five cops

An international travel ban has been imposed on five policemen who have been evading arrest following the murder of two businessmen in Rathgama. The Officer in Charge of the Southern Crimes Investigations Unit and a Sub Inspector were arrested and 15 policemen were ordered to be transferred over the incident. However five policemen had failed to report for duty after the transfer. (Colombo Gazette)
