Joint opposition ready to support UNP-led no-confidence against PM

The joint opposition says it is ready to support a United National Party (UNP)-led no-confidence motion against Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.

Joint opposition Parliamentarian C.B. Ratnayake said that all 53 members of the joint opposition will support the no-confidence motion if it is presented to Parliament.

United National Party (UNP) leader, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe is facing a fresh revolt in the UNP led by State Minister Palitha Range Bandara.

The revolt threatens to split the UNP like it did when there was a push a few years back to make Sajith Premadasa the party leader and Prime Ministerial candidate.

Bandara had said earlier that there needs to be key changes in the UNP and that includes a change in the leadership.

He said without making changes in the UNP leadership the party will not be able to move forward.

Ratnayake said that it was good to see people like Bandara standing up for what is right. (Colombo Gazette)

  1. The No Confidence motion is supposed to be by the UNP members against RW challenging his leadership in the party. If CB Ratnayake says the JO will support it, firstly JO members will have to get UNP membership. Otherwise it looks like CBR is showing his ignorance and stupidity as many of the JO members.
