Parliament to meet for special session on bond report

Parliament will meet on Wednesday January 10 for a special session to debate the treasury bond report.

It has been decided to convene Parliament for the special session following a request made by Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.

The Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP), the joint opposition and the?Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) had also called for a debate in Parliament on the report of the President Commission which investigated the alleged treasury bond scam.

President Maithripala Sirisena had earlier assured tough action after the Presidential commission recommended steps be taken against former Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake, former?Central Bank Governor Arjuna Mahendran and?Perpetual Treasuries head?Arjun Aloysius.

He said that the public suffered a loss of?Rs. 11.5 billion as a result of the?treasury bond deal.

The President had also said that?Perpetual Treasuries had made profits over?11,145 million. (Colombo Gazette)

Germany helps improve health and hygiene of preschools in Trinco

Germany has provided assistance to improve the health and hygiene of preschools in the Trincomalee District. The Germany Embassy in Colombo said that it has granted financial assistance through its micro projects scheme for the provision of health and hygiene facilities for 136 preschools in the Trincomalee District.
