Cabinet approves obtaining services of Brit to reform Police

Cabinet has approved a proposal to obtain the services of?British consultant on Police reforms, Sir Hugh Orde, to reform the Sri Lanka Police.

Law and Order and Southern Development Minister Sagala Ratnayake put forward the proposal to the Cabinet and the proposal was approved.

The Government has decided to obtain the service of Sir Hugh Orde a British national with an experience of restructuring the Police Service to make the Sri Lanka Police Service a proud profession based on principles of good governance, the Government said today.

Sir High Orde was in Sri Lanka in October for talks with the Government and other officials.

Sir Hugh Orde is a former Northern Ireland Police Chief and President of the Association of Chief Police Officers of UK. (Colombo Gazette)

Polling at quarantine centers on 31st July

Polling will take place at quarantine centers on 31st July, National Election Commission Chairman Mahinda Deshapriya said. Over 40 people arrive on three special flights

Over 40 persons had arrived in Sri Lanka this morning via three separate special flights. The National Operations Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 said 01 individual had arrived via flight EY 264 from Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE). Another 29 passengers had arrived via flight QR 668 from Doha, Qatar and 14 others had arrived from Chennai, India via flight 6E 9034. War on dengue launched in high-risk areas

A special mosquito control campaign targeting areas identified as high-risk for the spread of dengue was launched today. The Ministry of Health said an upward trend in the increase in dengue patients has been reported in certain districts due to the prevalent rainy weather. Entomological surveys conducted in these areas have predicted an impending threat of outbreaks unless strict control measures are applied.
