Lalith Warna Kumara to replace Samarasinghe as an MP

Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) member Lalith Warna Kumara is to replace Mahinda Samarasinghe as a Member of Parliament. A gazette notice has been issued by the Election Commission naming Lalith Warna Kumara as an MP from the Kalutara District. Mahinda Samarasinghe had resigned from his Parliament seat to be appointed as Sri Lanka’s new Ambassador to the US. (Colombo Gazette)

Health Ministry issues fresh Covid guidelines

The Ministry of Health has issued fresh Covid guidelines which will be in effect from 1-15 December. Accordingly, the public have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel out of the house in order to minimise the risk of the coronavirus from spreading. Companies have been encouraged to conduct virtual meetings while a maximum of 1/3 of a hall not exceeding 150 participants will be allowed at events. President appoints committee to study gas cylinder issue

President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has appointed a committee to study the gas cylinder issue. A number of explosions caused by gas cylinder leaks have been reported around the country. The President’s Media Unit said that the committee has been appointed to study the cause of the gas leak, explosions and other related incidents.
