Eight Indian fishermen arrested northeast of Vettalakerni

Eight Indian fishermen were arrested while poaching in Sri Lankan waters, northeast of Vettalakerni today.

A Fast Attack Craft attached to the Northern Naval Command, on routine patrol, arrested the 8?Indian fishermen and detained their fishing trawler.

The fishermen were brought to the naval base SLNS Uttara in Kankesanthurai and were subsequently handed over to the Assistant Fisheries Director of Jaffna for legal action.

The Navy said the trawler and fishing gear were retained at SLNS Elara in Karainagar. (Colombo Gazette)
