Chinese national arrested at airport with several items

A Chinese national who was heading to China was arrested at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) by customs officers attached to the bio diversity unit at the airport while trying to smuggle out edible bird nests, dried sea cucumber and dried sea horses and?three mugs made of Kothalahimbutu.

The customs department said that the Chinese national is?aged 35 and was about to board SriLankan Airlines flight UL 884 for Guangzhou at the time of the arrest.

The Detection was made by S.L Jayasinghe, C.S Samarakoon, Assistant Superintendent of Customs. Investigation and conducted by W. Kamalasiri, Superintendent of Customs, M.A.P Costa, K.K.S Madushan, R.M. Razeen, H.N.K Srimal and Ms. P.K Maskorale.

The suspect was released on a penalty of Rs. 25000/- having confiscated the goods by Jagath Obeyesekera, Deputy Director of Customs. (Colombo Gazette)

Isolation status on Maligawatta housing scheme lifted
