Court orders former Navy spokesman to be kept behind bars

Former Navy spokesman DKP Dassanayake, who was arrested by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) over the disappearance of 11 youth, was ordered to be further remanded till October 20 by the Colombo Fort Magistrate today.

The youth had been reported missing between 2008 and 2009.

In 2015 the CID had questioned Dassanayake over allegations that some officers in the Navy were involved in the disappearance of several youth.

Last year, former Navy Commander?Admiral Wasantha Karannagoda also appeared before the CID to make a statement over the disappearance of the youth.?(Colombo Gazette)

CCD begins probe into Pepiliyana Fashion Bug fire

The Colombo Crimes Division (CCD) has begun an investigation into the fire at the?Pepiliyana ‘Fashion Bug’ warehouse?last night. The government said that the fire was doused by the fir brigade and investigations had been launched. Several Muslim politicians visited the store when the fire broke out. One person shot dead in Kandy, another injured

One person was shot dead and?another person sustained injuries in Kandy this morning. The incident, which was captured on CCTV, showed gunmen in a car opening fire at two men who were standing on the side of?a main road. The police later arrested one suspect and also found the car used for the crime. (Colombo Gazette)
