Indian detained for wearing clothes with Buddha’s image

An Indian national was detained at the Katunayake airport for wearing clothes with an image of the Lord Buddha.

Officers at the airport detained the woman when she was about to board a plane to leave Sri Lanka, officials said.

The Indian was detained and asked to change her dress before she was allowed to proceed.

Officials said that the Indian woman had told the airport officers that the dress was not intended to disrespect Buddhism.

On an earlier occasion a foreign woman had been detained in Sri Lanka for having a tattoo of Buddha. (Colombo Gazette)
