Court bans protest by Namal in Hambantota against port, airport deal

A restraining order has been issued against Parliamentarian Namal Rajapaksa from holding a protest in the Hambantota area tomorrow.

The protest was to be staged against the agreement reached between the Government with two foreign companies to operate the Hambantota port and airport.

Rajapaksa and the joint opposition have raised objections to the agreements saying it results in the selling of Government assets to a foreign country.

The Hambantota port is to be operated by a Chinese company while the Mattala Airport will be operated by an Indian company. (Colombo Gazette)
