The Philippine baseball team hopes to produce a decent showing with a youthful roster when it competes in the Asian Baseball Championship which starts today at the Xinzhuang Stadium.
Representing the country in the tournament are Paolo Macasaet, Dino Altomonte, Javi Macasaet and Marco Mallari of defending UAAP champion Ateneo, Iggy Escano, Diego Lozano, Geof Magsadia, Kiko Gesmundo of La Salle, Jerome Yenson, Erwin Bosito, and Mark Manaig of Adamson, Alfredo de Guzman and Clarence Caasalan of National University, and Ron De la Cruz and Lesmar Ventura of University of Santo Tomas.
The Filipino batters make their debut today then takes on Sri Lanka tomorrow before facing South Korea on Wednesday.
Adrian Bernardo, Carlos Munoz and veterans Jonjon Robles, Jonash Ponce, Jennald and Joennard Pareja and Romeo Jasmin were also named to the team that has an average age of 22 years old. (Courtesy Manila Bulletin)
