Enjoining order against SLFP CC meet extended

The enjoining order issued against the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) from holding the Central Committee (CC) meeting without the consent of President Maithripala Sirisena, has been extended till August 24. The Colombo District Court extended the enjoining order when the case was heard today. A petition had earlier been filed against the holding of the CC meeting without the consent of President Maithripala Sirisena as he is the current leader of the SLFP.

Thajudeen’s body to be exhumed on Monday

The Colombo Additional Magistrate today gave the police Criminal Investigations Department (CID) the approval to exhume the body of former Sri Lanka rugby player?Wasim Thajudeen on Monday August 10. Court had yesterday decided to consider a request to exhume Thajudeen’s body after the CID said that there was suspicion over the manner in which he died. Keshap confirmed as US envoy to Sri Lanka

Indian-American Atul Keshap has been confirmed as the U.S. Ambassador to Sri Lanka and Maldives, becoming the second Indian-origin diplomat to be posted to the region after Richard Rahul Verma, The Hindu newspaper reported. Keshap (44), a former official at the US Embassy in India, was on Wednesday confirmed by the U.S. Senate as the country?s envoy which would be his first Ambassadorial posting.
