Gazette issued bringing Lotteries Board back under Finance Ministry

A Special Gazette notice has been issued bringing the National Lotteries Board back under the Finance Ministry.

The National Lotteries Board was initially under the Finance Ministry but former Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake had wanted the?National Lotteries Board under the Foreign Ministry when he was appointed Foreign Minister.

However following?Karunanayake’s resignation from his Ministerial post recently, a decision has been taken to revert the?National Lotteries Board to the Finance Ministry. (Colombo Gazette)

Airman killed in rescue operations promoted posthumously

A Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF) Airman who was killed during the rescue operations following the floods, was today?promoted posthumously. the SLAF said. The officer had fallen from a helicopter while engaging in a flood rescue operation in Neluwa area in Galle. YMS Yaparathna fell off the helicopter while carrying a flood victim on a cable.

Government assures pipe borne water not contaminated

The Government today assured that pipe borne water was not contaminated as a result of the floods. Minister of City Planning and Water Supply?Rauff Hakeem said that water being distributed by the National Water Supply and Drainage Board was clean. He also said that once the flood waters recede steps will be taken to clean wells in the affected areas. The Minister also said that water distribution had been affected in some areas as a result of landslides. Hakeem said that steps are being take
