Ravi Karunanayake resigns from Foreign Minister post

Foreign Minister Ravi Karunanayake making a special statement in Parliament today said that he was resigning from his ministerial portfolio.

He however said that although he is resigning from the post he would continue to work as a back-bencher in Parliament.

Meanwhile, a no-confidence motion against the Minister which was submitted to Parliament will not be discussed as the Minister had resigned.

The no-confidence motion was signed by 34 members of the joint opposition.

Karunanayake is facing allegations over the Central Bank bond scam. Karunanayake however denied the allegations raised against him.

He told Parliament today that the media had “crucified” him over the allegations yet he was not shaken.

Karunanayake also said that he had taken the decision to resign from his party with pride and to protect the Government. (Colombo Gazette)

Now Sri Lankan Standards have gone to it’s lowest level. Despite trillion promises to bring Yahapalanaya, corruption began from day one and continued until general public cannot stand any more. Mr Ravi spoke like a hero even though he rob the Central Bank in broad dayLight. Can a country go lower than this.

Finally he resigned because he cannot face the “No confidence” motion. Both President and Prime Minister did not take measures to stop him although ‘there was no terrorist war to handle’ such as the situation in previous government. At least Prime Minister should consider resigning too.
