Families file complaint with HRC over “Aava group” arrests

Families of several suspects arrested over their alleged involvement with the “Aava group” have filed a complaint with the Human Rights Commission (HRC) in Jaffna.

The families claimed that their sons have been arrested under baseless allegations following recent incidents blamed on the?Aava group.

Incidents of sword attacks had been reported in the North recently, including attacks targeting the Police.

The families of those arrested over those incidents however accused the Police of falsely arresting their children saying they are?Aava group members.

The Human Rights Commission has said it will look into the complaints. (Colombo Gazette)

Former SPC member and driver arrested over rape of Chinese woman

Heat wave to continue in several areas

The heat advisory issued to several areas across the country has been extended till tomorrow (06), the Department of Meteorology said. The heat advisory covers the North-Western, Western, Sabaragamuwa and Southern Provinces and the Mannar and Monaragala Districts. The Department of Meteorology said the heat index, the temperature felt on the human body, is expected to increase up to ?Extreme Caution? level at some places in the above mentioned Provinces and Districts.
