A Rs 1000 fine was imposed on former Parliamentarian Sajin de Vass Gunawardena over his failure to declare his assets. The fine was imposed by court after he had failed to declare his assets in 2011/2012.

Army chief seeks support for reconciliation process

Army commander Lieutenant General Mahesh Senanayake has sought support for the Government’s reconciliation initiatives. The commander said that the Army can assist the reconciliation process by building civil-military partnerships, which he says is essential and important to counter violent extremism and sustain the hard-earned peace. Long distance trains cancelled after unions launch strike

Several long distance trains were cancelled today after trade unions launched a strike. The strike was launched by the locomotive operating engineers union. All night mail trains have been cancelled as a result of the protest. Trade unions said that talks held in an attempt to resolve the dispute had ended in failure. (Colombo Gazette)
