Key witness in Welikada prison riot grilled by the CID

A key witness in the Welikada prison riot was questioned by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) today.

The CID questioned?Suresh Nandimal for several hours over the 2012 incident in which 27 inmates were killed.

Nandimal was among the inmates at the prison when the riot took place.

The riot broke out during a search for illegal arms.

The Government had appointed a committee to investigate the riot and a report was compiled on the incident but it was not made public.

In January this year the Human Rights Commission in Sri Lanka (HRCSL) recorded a statement from a journalist over the riot.
