Former President Mahinda Rajapakse?remained confident of securing victory at the Parliamentary elections held today. Mahinda Rajapakse was scheduled to cast his vote at 7.15am but he later decided to cast his vote around 11am owing to astrological reasons. Sri Lankan accused of lighting fire in Dubai jail

A Sri Lankan prisoner has appeared in court a Dubai accused of lighting a fire in his cell, The National newspaper in Dubai reported. On Sunday, D?L, 28, did not enter a plea at Dubai Criminal Court as a translator was not available. Liquor given at several places as bribe for votes

Election monitors reported several incidents of liquor being distributed today?as bribes to voters for the Parliamentary election. The Campaign for a Free and Fair Election (CAFFE) said that in Badulla 67 people had been given liquor bottles yesterday to secure their votes by a certain candidate.
