Claims of threat to US Embassy in Colombo fabricated

There is no basis to claims of a threat from IS rebels to the US Embassy in Colombo, Government intelligence sources told Colombo Gazette.

Reports spread of IS insurgents planning to hijack a small plane from the Ratmalana airport and crashing it into the US Embassy in Colombo.

The reports were allegedly based on information received by the US Embassy in Colombo.

However Government defence sources said that there was no basis for such a claim.

They also said that an investigation has been launched into the media report which claimed there was a threat to the US Embassy in Colombo.

Meanwhile when the?Colombo Gazette contacted the US Embassy in Colombo the Embassy said it does not comment on intelligence matters.?(Colombo Gazette)

Thirty-five Police officers promoted as SSPs

Thirty-five Police officers have been promoted to the rank of Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), the Police media unit said. The Police media unit said that the 35 Police officers promoted currently hold the rank of Superintendent of Police (SP). The Police Headquarters promoted the SPs to the rank of SSP with effect from 9 May 2020.
