Sri Lankan cricketers accused of giving IPL priority

Sports Minister Dayasiri Jayasekera today accused some Sri Lankan cricketers of giving India priority and not the national team.

He said that some cricketers undergo fitness programs in Sri Lanka but then play in India and not for the Sri Lanka team.

“They go to play in India for the money,” the Minister said.

The Sports Minister was referring to some Sri Lankan cricketers deciding to play for the IPL in India as opposed to giving priority for the Sri Lanka national team.

Speaking at a media briefing today?Jayasekera said that in future the Sri Lanka cricket team will be picked based on fitness.

He said that a programme is now being formulated on ensuring only physically fit players are picked for the team. (Colombo Gazette)

Three killed after van crashes into bus in Wagama

Three people were killed when a van crashed into a bus in Wagama along the Bibila – Mahiyanganaya road. The Police said the bus had stopped for repairs when the van crashed into it. Three people travelling in the van were killed in the accident while 5 others sustained injuries. Further investigations are underway. (Colombo Gazette)
