Government studying strong statement by Asgiriya Chapter

The Government says it is studying the strong statement issued by the?Asgiriya Chapter yesterday.

Cabinet spokesman Dr. Rajitha Senaratne said that the Government will respond to the statement after studying it.

Dr. Rajitha Senaratne however said that monks should follow Buddhist teachings.

The?Asgiriya Chapter yesterday demanded an end to attempts to silence Buddhist??monks who question politicians.

The Registrar of the Asgiriya Chapter, the Venerable Dr. Medagama Dhammananda Thero, reading a statement on behalf of the Asgiriya Chapter, said that Buddhist monks have always fought to protect the country.

The?Asgiriya Chapter said that while it does not condone the behavior of the?General Secretary of the Bodu Bala Sena (BBS), the Venerable?Galagoda Aththe Gnanasara Thero, his concerns should not be disregarded.

The?Asgiriya Chapter also condemned attempts to bring disrepute to?Buddhist monks through statements made at press conferences. (Colombo Gazette)

Health Ministry suspends kidney transplants for foreigners

The Health Ministry has temporarily suspended kidney transplants for foreigners at Government and private hospitals after a racket in India was linked to six local doctors.
