Sri Lanka is looking?to boost ties with France under French President-elect Emmanuel Macron, the Xinhua news agency reported.
President Maithripala Sirisena congratulated Macron on his election win saying it provides a platform to boost relations between both countries.
“Congratulations to @EmmanuelMacron on your remarkable victory. It provides a great platform for relations between our nations to prosper,” the president tweeted.
Foreign Minister Mangala Samaraweera also tweeted saying the win by Macron was a great victory for liberal democracy.
“Moderates around the world rejoice. Vive la France,” Samaraweera tweeted.
Macron won Sunday’s runoff vote of the French presidential election, defeating his far-right rival Marine Le Pen. (Colombo Gazette)
