Sri Lanka and the Czech Republic renew bilateral cooperation

Sri Lanka and the Czech Republic have renewed bilateral cooperation, the Foreign Ministry said in a statement today.

The Junior Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic Ivan Jancarekmet with Additional Secretary of Foreign Affairs (Economic Affairs and Trade, Middle East and Africa, and Political Affairs/ West) Grace Asirwatham, on 5^th May 2017, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Colombo.

During the meeting, the existing bilateral relations between the two counties were reviewed and the two sides discussed ways of meaningfully advancing engagements in the areas of trade, investment, tourism, cultural and education. The two delegations also agreed to strengthen existing bilateral relations through mutual cooperation.

During the visit to Sri Lanka, the Czech delegation also participated at the Czech-Sri Lanka Business Forumwhich was held on 04^thMay 2017 at Hilton Hotel in Colombo. The Business Forum was organised by the Embassy of the Czech Republic in New Delhi and the Consulate of the Czech Republic in Colombo in partnership withthe Czech Chamber of Commerce.

Ivan Jancarek was accompanied by Milan Hovorka, Ambassador of the Czech Republic in New Delhi, representatives of the Czech Chamber of Commerce and Honorary Consul for Czech Republic in Sri Lanka. (Colombo Gazette)

Maradana protesters granted bail

The protesters who were arrested in Maradana yesterday, were granted bail today. Lawyers said that of the 83 protesters who were arrested yesterday, 80 were released on police bail and 3 on bail by court.
