The Anuradhapura Magistrate today issued orders to destroy over Rs. 900,000 worth of sausages seized by health inspectors in the area. Health inspectors had told the Magistrate that the sausages had been kept at a storage facility by a government official in the area despite it being sized on the grounds that they were unfit for human consumption. U.S to help Lanka fight sexual crimes

The United States is to help Sri Lanka fight sexual crimes which will help decrease incidence of sexual assault and abuse through successful prosecution of offenders, the U.S Embassy in Colombo said in a statement on Wednesday. The Embassy said that the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), in partnership with the Sri Lankan Ministry of Health and Ministry of Justice, launched its Sexual Assault Forensic Examination (SAFE) program with a roundtable discussion in Colombo.

Food poisoning kills Dubai nationals

Two Dubai nationals, a mother and her child, died at a hospital in Ragama today following suspected food poisoning, the police said. According to the police the mother, her husband and child had arrived from Dubai and were staying at a hotel in Seeduwa. They fell sick yesterday and it was believed that it was as a result of some food they consumed in the airline. All three were admitted to hospital but the mother and child had later died.
