Parliament debates garbage gazette and Meethotamulla

Parliament today debated the gazette declaring garbage an essential service and the Meethotamulla tragedy.

President Maithripala Sirisena summoned Parliament to meet today?to be informed of the decision taken to declare disposing garbage an essential service.

The President instructed the issuance of the special gazette notification last week to declare garbage disposal as an essential service.

Accordingly a gazette was issued under the Public Security Act Clause NO 16 declaring garbage disposal by any authority of the Public Administration is an essential service. (Colombo Gazette)

Manmohan monitoring rehabilitation

Indian Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Sing is closely monitoring the rehabilitation program of war displaced Tamils in Sri Lanka, an Indian Minister said today.
