Dynamic dup to head blink design group

BLINK Design Group has appointed Rengy John and Clint Nagata as co-CEOs, marking a new chapter for the luxury hospitality design firm as both leaders focus on their respective areas of expertise to strengthen the company through integrated business and design leadership. Over the last few years, BLINK has risen to be one of the top design firms globally that provide architecture and interior design services in the luxury hospitality market segment.

Rengy joins BLINK from a 14-year career with Wilson Associates where he was most recently Managing Director of its 200-strong team in Singapore and Shanghai, the company’s largest globally.  On his move to BLINK, Rengy says, “There is tremendous potential — as a young firm, BLINK is dynamic and agile, which is a great fit for the new generation of hospitality entrepreneurs with whom we are working. I’ve always admired Clint’s design vision. This strengthening of BLINK’s leadership is a testament to our vision and ambitions.”

Clint, who joins Rengy as co-CEO of BLINK, affirms the decision for a dual-leadership model: “The collaborative model plays to our individual strengths and enables greater effectiveness. At the same time, we can count on each other’s insight for future business decisions and challenges as we expand.”

Another key member of the BLINK leadership team, who joined the firm in February, is its Chief Financial Officer, Kee Choon (KC) Lee, a financial professional with an exemplary business strategy background. KC served as the CFO of Baker & McKenzie for its Singapore, Indonesia and Malaysia offices which recorded enviable financial growth in all three jurisdictions. Prior to his appointment at BLINK, KC had demonstrated astute business acumen with his impressive track record, including robust business performance-tracking implementation, operational and tax efficiencies solutions for business units, among others. KC’s extensive experience with professional services plays a pivotal role in BLINK’s enterprise strategy as it moves forward with its expansion.

Founded in 2006, BLINK was acquired by SMG in 2011 as part of an overarching strategy to strengthen SMG’s position and expand its global exposure within the hospitality design industry.

In August 2016, SMG inked an exclusive agreement with Jaya International Design (JAYA) to manage and operate its ultra-luxury interior design business, with the express intent of continuing the legacy of its celebrated founder, Jaya Ibrahim, while forging ahead into a new era of incomparable guest experiences. Today, BLINK and JAYA are sister-companies within the hospitality arm of SMG, and are recognized as market leaders in building and interior design for the luxury hospitality sector in Asia and beyond.

Says Anurag Srivastava, CEO of SMG, “We have put a strong team in place to lead BLINK and JAYA towards our goal of global recognition as preeminent luxury hospitality design firms.”  He continues, “Travel+Style recently published a master list of the top 70 luxury hotel openings in 2017; between BLINK and JAYA, we have six listed projects, which is an achievement for the team. Aside from industry recognition, it is ultimately our goal to create value for our clients, our hospitality operator partners, and our company. Our collective intelligence, imagination, and design insights enable us to transform our client’s vision into reality — that is what sets us apart.”
