Shooting incident involving S.B’s security, 2 injured

A shooting incident had taken place involving the security of former Minister S.B Dissanayake in Ginigathhena, Polpitiya late this evening. The Police said that two people were injured in the shooting incident. It was reported that the two people were shot when they had allegedly obstructed the convoy of the former Minister. The two injured people were admitted to hospital for treatment.

Accused sentenced to death over murder

A man found guilty of killing his wife and two children in 2012 has been sentanced to death. The children aged three and one month were killed in Ratmalana and the bodies were later burnt. The Colombo High Court sentenced the convict to death when the case was heard today.

Mahinda seeks pledge from Sajith to oppose federalism

Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) leader and leader of the Opposition, Mahinda Rajapaksa has sought a pledge from New Democratic Front Presidential candidate Sajith Premadasa that he will oppose federalism and reject the draft constitution tabled in Parliament by the Prime Minister earlier this year. In a statement today Rajapaksa said that the chapter on constitutional reform in the manifesto of the UNP presidential candidate contains provisions to replace the unitary state with a formulation
