Fairly strong gusty winds expected over the country

Fairly strong gusty winds are expected over the country (up to 40-50kmph) and surrounding sea areas (up to 60kmph) today.

The Department of Meteorology said that several spells of showers will occur in the Northern, North-central, Eastern, Uva and North-western provinces and in the Hambantota district.

Showers or thundershowers are likely at several places elsewhere, particularly after 2.00 pm.

There may be temporary localized strong winds during thundershowers.

Meanwhile, the Department of Meteorology said that wind speeds over the sea areas around the island will?likely increase up to 60kmph and hence sea areas around the island are expected to be rough at times.

Several spells of showers will occur in the sea areas off the coast extending from Kankasanthurai to Potuvil via Trincomalee. Mainly fair weather will prevail in other sea areas.

The sea area off the coast extending from Colombo to Mannar via Puttalam , and the sea area off the coast extending from Galle to Potuvil via Hambantota can be rough at times as the wind speed can increase up to 60 kmph. The other sea areas around the island can be fairly rough at times as the wind speed can increase up to 50 kmph. (Colombo Gazette)
