SLMC makes changes, appoints new General Secretary

The Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC) announced key changes to the party today, including the appointment of a new General Secretary replacing Hasan Ali.

Mansur A. Cader was appointed as the new?General Secretary of the SLMC at the party delegates conference?today.

A rift between Hasan Ali and SLMC leader Rauff Hakeem drew attention when?Ali boycotted the SLMC convention last year.

SLMC chairman Basheer Segu Dawood has also been removed from the post but a replacement was not named today.

Both?Hasan Ali and?Basheer Segu Dawood did not attend the?delegates conference today.?(Colombo Gazette)

Petition challenging Mudalige’s detention to be heard next month

A petition challenging the detention of activist and student union leader Wasantha Mudalige is to be heard next month. The Supreme Court has decided to hear the case into the detention of Inter-University Students? Federation (IUSF) convenor Wasantha Mudalige under the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA), on 18th October. Overseas travel by Ministers to be restricted

A decision has been taken to restrict overseas travel by Cabinet Ministers and State Ministers.
