Joint opposition feels Government has been ‘Trumped’

The joint opposition feels the Government has been ‘Trumped’ with the removal of some officials in the US State Department who played a key role in Sri Lankan affairs.

Opposition Parliamentarian Dullas Alahapperuma said that the removal of the US Ambassador to the UN Samantha Power, US Under Secretary of State Nisha Biswal and Assistant Secretary of State for Democracy, Human Rights, and Labor Tom Malinowski is a blow to the Sri Lankan Government.

He said that people like Nisha Biswal will not be seen anymore in Sri Lanka unless she is here on holiday.

Alahapperuma accused Biswal and others who worked with her of interfering in Sri Lanka’s domestic affairs.

He said the current Trump administration has made it clear it will not interfere in the domestic affairs of another country.

Alahapperuma warned the US Ambassador to Sri Lanka Atul Keshap to accept the change that has taken place in the US and respect Sri Lanka’s sovereignty. (Colombo Gazette)
