Mahinda doubts Kuliyapitiya plant is for Volkswagen

Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa doubts the vehicle assembly plant in Kuliyapitiya is for Volkswagen vehicles.

President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe placed the foundation stone yesterday?for the construction of a vehicle assembly plant of the German auto maker Volkswagen in Kuliyapitiya.

The Board of Investment (BOI) inked the agreement with the German auto maker last year to set up the?assembly plant in Sri Lanka?at an investment of US$ 26.5 million.

However Rajapakasa feels the vehicle assembly plant is not really for?Volkswagen but for some low grade vehicles. (Colombo Gazette)

Decision to reopen schools postponed to 15 March

The decision to reopen schools in the country has been postponed to 15 March, the Education Ministry said today. The Education Ministry said that schools in the Western Province which were to reopen on 15th February will now reopen on 15 March. The coronavirus death toll in Sri Lanka rose to 375 today, the Government Information Department said. The Government said that five new deaths were reported today. The five victims were residents of Colombo 5, Wattala, Aluthgama, Gampaha and Wellampitiya.
