Two Sri Lankans arrested in Kolkata with fake passports

Two Sri Lankan nationals were arrested at the Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport in Kolkata?with fake Indian passports today (Thursday), India Today reported.

The two accused, identified as Suresh Karani and Jebanesam Ramerswani, sneaked into India from Sri Lanka around 10 years ago and were operating with fake documents since then.

They had been living as citizens of the country after procuring forged documents.

Two days ago, they had flown to France via China, where the French Immigration officials had detained them to verify their passports on grounds of suspicion.

The documents were, later, examined by the authorities and the two were deported to India with immediate effect.

The Indian Immigration officials, then, filed a report with the local police station. Acting on the complaint, the police arrested the two Sri Lankan national from the airport in Kolkata. (Colombo Gazette)

Three escapees arrested

The police have arrested three of the 10 inmates of the Avisawella prison who had escaped last morning, the police media unit said today. According to the police, one inmate was arrested in Kosgama last evening while the other two were arrested in Kosgama last night. All three prisoners are to be produced before the Avissawella magistrate today, the police media unit added. The police said that the 10 inmates had?escaped?after assaulting three prison guards early last morning.
