Area around Beira Lake to be commercial center

The area around the?Beira Lake is to be converted into a commercial center, Minister of Megapolis and Western Development, Patali Champika Ranawaka.
He said that an international commercial center is to be constructed in the area and work on the project has already commenced.
The?Beira Lake rehabilitation and development project recently obtained cabinet approval.
The Beira Lake which is situated on a land of about 120 hectares is helpful in storm water drainage, recreational activities and biodiversity.
Illegal disposal of solid waste and drainage from the surrounding areas have polluted the?water source.
A proposal made by Minister Ranawaka to implement the Beira Lake rehabilitation and development project at an estimated cost of Rs. 12,550 million was approved by the cabinet in October. (Colombo Gazette)
