Speaker Karu Jayasuriya and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe are to meet Inspector of General of Police (IGP) Pujith Jayasundara on a controversial telephone call he had with a Minister which was captured on television.
Jayasuriya and the Prime Minister informed Parliament today that the telephone call will be discussed with the Police chief.
The Prime Minister said he hopes to meet the IGP today while the Speaker said he will meet the IGP next week.
President Maithripala Sirisena had this week demanded an explanation from the IGP who was filmed assuring someone on the telephone that he had instructed the Financial Crimes Investigations Division not to arrest a “Nilame.”
The IGP was heard assuring the caller he repeatedly addressed as “sir, sir” and assuring that he had given “very clear instructions to the director of the FCID not to arrest the Nilame.” (Colombo Gazette)
