The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) informed the Mount Lavinia Magistrate Court today that it has launched an investigation over a drone which was used to take images of the exhumation of the remains of journalist Lasantha Wickrematunga.
The CID?briefed the Mount Lavinia Magistrate?on the?exhumation which was carried out on Tuesday and other matters related to the ongoing investigations.
On a request made by the family of the late?Wickrematunga the media was not allowed to enter the Borella cemetery?while the exhumation was being carried out.
However one media organisation had used a drone fixed with a camera in an attempt to capture images of the remains being exhumed.
Meanwhile the CID informed court that the army intelligence officer currently in remand custody, had been posted to Sri Lanka’s Embassy in Germany following Wickrematunga’s murder.
Wickrematunga was killed in January 2009 while he was on his way to office in Ratmalana.
A fresh investigation has been launched to identify if?Wickrematunga was killed from gun-shot wounds or a sharp object. (Colombo Gazette)
