Rajitha says Mahinda was urged to follow Mandela’s policy

Health Minister Dr Rajitha Senaratne says former President Mahinda Rajapaksa was urged to follow the policies of the great South African leader, the late Nelson Mandela after the war.

Senaratne said that had Rajapaksa followed?Mandela’s policies he could have ruled the country for?20 years.

The Minister said that when he was in the Government led by Rajapaksa he had urged the President to do what Mandela did after the military defeated the LTTE and ended 30 years of war.

However Senaratne noted that Rajapaksa decided to follow a different path and this led to his defeat at the last Presidential election. (Colombo Gazette)

TRCSL says no move to block internet access

The Telecommunications Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka (TRCSL) says there is no move to block access to the internet tomorrow (Saturday). BASL says curfew blatantly illegal

The Bar Association of Sri Lanka (BASL) says the Police curfew imposed today is “blatantly illegal”. The Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka has also directed the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to withdraw the curfew. Curfew declared in parts of the Western Province

Curfew has been declared in parts of the Western Province with immediate effect. The Police said that the curfew has been declared in the Negombo police area, Kelaniya police area, Nugegoda police area, Mount Lavinia police area, Colombo North police area, Colombo South police area and Colombo Central police area.
