Government asserts commitment to National unity

The Government is?committed to?National unity, Housing and Construction Minister Sajith Premadasa said.

He said that the cohabitation Government will work towards establishing reconciliation after taking over a country which was divided.

The Minister said that the stand on?reconciliation was asserted following the 70th anniversary celebrations of the United National Party held over the weekend.

He also noted that attempts were made to prevent the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) from holding a successful event to celebrate the 65th anniversary of the SLFP recently but that failed.

Premadasa said that the large turnout at?the SLFP and the UNP events was a clear indication of the strength of both parties.

The Minister said that the unity between the UNP and SLFP has prevented those who made money out of the war from getting a place in society. (Colombo Gazette)
