SC hearing on polls postponed after opening day submissions

The hearing at the Supreme Court (SC) on multiple Fundamental Rights (FR) petitions filed against the date set by the Elections Commission to hold the General Election was postponed for tomorrow after submissions were made on the opening day today. UN declares detention of Sri Lankan author violation of international law

The United Nations Working Group on Arbitrary Detention has issued an opinion finding the Government of Sri Lanka to be in contravention of its international human rights obligations for the four month pre-trial detention of author Shakthika Sathkumara. S&P SL20 index records highest daily percentage gain

The S&P SL20 Index today made its highest daily percentage gain, since it was formed in 2012. The Colombo Stock Exchange (CSE) said the S&P SL20 Index gained 5.25% during trading today.? The CSE added that the index closed at 1,847.71 points as trading concluded for the day. Earlier this month, the CSE announced that trading will commence from 11 May.
