Speaker defends process followed to pass OMP Bill

12 Aug, 2016

Speaker Karu Jayasuriya today defended the process followed yesterday to pass the Office on Missing Persons (OMP) Bill.

Jayasuriya also slammed the conduct of some joint opposition members in Parliament yesterday.

He said that some opposition members behaved in an unruly manner in the Well of the House when the OMP Bill was being discussed.

The joint opposition today raised objections to the manner in which the Bill was passed in Parliament.

However the Government insisted that the opposition had time to debate the Bill but instead they protested against it in Parliament. (Colombo Gazette)
