Army extends General Amnesty for AWOL soldiers

The?Army today announced an extension of the General Amnesty for soldiers?Absent Without Official Leave (AWOL). Army Headquarters said that the amnesty which ends tomorrow has been extended to November 22, 2017. A total of 8034 Officers and Other Rankers of the Army who are Absent Without Official Leave have so far reported back to their respective Regimental Headquarters to receive their legal discharge under the ongoing General Amnesty period which began on 23 October 2017. Report on fuel crisis handed over to President Sirisena

The committee appointed to look into the recent fuel crisis submitted its report to President Maithripala Sirisena today. President Maithripala Sirisena had appointed the committee when the fuel issue turned into a crisis last week. A shortage of fuel turned into a crisis with fuel sheds running out of petrol for days. The situation was resolved with an oil tanker arriving from the UAE and India sending stocks following a request from the President.?(Colombo Gazette)

Examinations chief transferred to assist ongoing probe

The Commissioner General of Examinations W M N J Pushpakumara has been transferred to the Ministry of Education, with immediate effect, the Education Ministry said. The transfer was reportedly carried out to assist an ongoing investigation into allegations of?misconduct. Earlier the head of the Confidential and Agency Examinations Division of the Department of Examinations had been suspended over the allegations. (Colombo Gazette)
