Minister of Prison Reforms Rehabilitation, Resettlement and Hindu Religious Affairs, D M Swaminathan says?the present Government has not done anything that would adversely affect the Tamils.
He says the?Government is?committed to ensure the well being of the Tamil Community.
The Minister this week?presented land ownership certificates to over 190 families living in the Sidhambarapuram village in Vavuniya.
The Sidhambarapuram village was a camp that housed families who were in temporary settlements for the last 25 years. The villagers were temporarily settled in this area in 1990 after they were displaced due to the conflict situation in the North.
In an effort to bring normalcy into their lives after being affected by the war and giving them the opportunity to establish permanent housing, Ministry of Prison Reforms Rehabilitation, Resettlement and Hindu Religious Affairs presented these land ownership certificates.
? We are committed to ensure the well being of the Tamil Community and all projects implemented in the North are to benefit the people living in these areas. The Tamil community should understand that the present government has not done anything that would adversely affect them,? Minister Swaminathan said.
Chief Minister of the Northern Province, C.V Wigneswaran also participated in the event. (Colombo Gazette)
