Speaker insists microphone malfunction technical and not conspiracy

Speaker Karu Jayasuriya today insisted that the microphone malfunction in Parliament yesterday was a technical issue and not a conspiracy.

Sittings in Parliament were suspended yesterday after less than 30 minutes when the sound system broke down.

The joint opposition alleged the breakdown was a conspiracy to suspend a no-confidence motion on Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake which was to be debated and voted on yesterday.

The Speaker however dismissed the conspiracy theory and the?no-confidence motion was submitted to Parliament when it began sittings this morning. (Colombo Gazette)
