War affected still carrying shrapnel in body to be identified

A proposal has been made to identify war affected people still carrying shrapnel from?a bomb in their bodies, seven years after the war ended.

The proposal was made after the Tamil National Alliance raised the matter in Parliament today.

Parliament was told that some people in the North and East still have?shrapnel in their bodies from bombs which exploded during the war between the army and the LTTE.

The?Tamil National Alliance said that some youth had to travel to India to have the?shrapnel removed at their own expense.

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe said that the Government is ready to gather information on such persons and offer assistance.

He said that the Health Ministry and the Ministry of Rehabilitation will work together with the?Tamil National Alliance to collect information on the war affected individuals and offer treatment even in India if required. (Colombo Gazette)
