President to visit China again on invitation from Chinese President

President Maithripala Sirisena is to visit China soon, his second official visit to China since taking office as President in January last year.

Minister Mahinda Samarasinghe said President Sirisena will be visiting China?on an invitation extended by Chinese President?Yi Xianliang.

He said the visit will help further boost the relationship between both countries. The visit follows Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe’s visit to China this year and?Sirisena’s visit to China in March last year.

“Our Prime Minister went and brought financial assistance to the county and now the President will go. This friendship between both countries must continue,” ?Samarasinghe said.

The Minister also said that Sri Lanka’s Foreign policy?is to take the middle ground and not take sides or anger Sri Lanka’s neighbors. (Colombo Gazette)

India ready to assist Sri Lanka secure IMF deal

India says it is prepared to support Sri Lanka to secure a deal with the International Monetary Fund (IMF). Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar said that?India had done the best of its abilities to assist Sri Lanka. “This year alone India had extended $3.8 billion of support to Sri Lanka, including line of credits and swap arrangements,” he said. Sri Lanka is currently seeking an agreement with the IMF and Jaishankar said that India is prepared to assist Sri Lanka secure the deal.
