Jayanthi Kuru-Utumpala coverJayanthi Kuru-Utumpala became the first Sri Lankan to reach the summit of Mount Everest while her partner in the expedition, Johann Peries is close behind and in his way to the top.

International Mountain Guides, the mountaineering company supporting Jayanthi and Johann are overseeing the training, logistical support, as well as providing meals for the duo. This includes cooking a wide variety of foods at Everest Base Camp to ensure they keep their appetite – losing your appetite is common at high altitudes and is a sign of altitude sickness. Both Jayanthi and Johann have been healthy to date and are eating very well.

Jayanthi and Johann were earlier pleased with the way their bodies have responded to the altitude and were both focused on their goal to summit Mt Everest. (Colombo Gazette)
