Speaker Karu Jayasuriya today refused to allow opposition Parliamentarian?Udaya Gammanpila?to raise a question on the removal of the?security of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
Gammanpila raised a question from Law and Order Minister Sagala Ratnayake in Parliament today over crime related matters and the number of policemen required to be on duty to deal with the law and order related incidents.
Ratnayake responded to the question and said that the?number of policemen required to?deal with an incident depends on the incident.
Gammanpila then questioned if using the police to give security to politicians, including former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, will result in them being removed from being on standby to deal with criminal matters.
Speaker Karu Jayasuriya then said that the issue of the security of the former President is not related to the original question in the order paper and so refused to allow the question to be asked. (Colombo Gazette)
