Severe weather warning issued for the next few days

A severe weather warning has been issued for the next few days by the early warning centre of the Department of Meteorology.

The department said that a disturbance in the vicinity of Sri Lanka is likely to intensify further from tomorrow.

It is expected to be intensified gradually in to a depression and likely to move closer to Sri Lanka affecting the weather over the country and surrounding sea areas.

Under its influence strong winds and heavy rainfalls can be expected over the country and surrounding sea areas from the 15th to 18th May 2016. Very heavy rain falls are also expected particularly over the Southwestern part of the country. (Colombo Gazette)

Brothel raided in Wellawatte

A brothel was raided in Wellawatte last night and four people including the manager of the brothel were arrested. The police said that the brothel was operating as an ayurvedha spa along Havelock Road. During the raid the police arrested three women who were engaged in prostitution, the police media unit said today. The women are aged 33, 25 and 38. Maldives to station cops in Lanka

The Maldives is considering having police officers stationed in Sri Lanka to curb drugs being smuggled into the Maldives. Maldives police commissioner Abdulla Riyaz has stressed on the need to station Maldivian police officers in neighbouring countries in order to stop drugs being trafficked into the Maldives.
