Joint opposition slams actions of Speaker Karu Jayasuriya

The joint opposition today slammed the?actions of Speaker Karu Jayasuriya in Parliament recently and accused him of violating the Standing Orders of Parliament.

Joint opposition member Dinesh Gunawardena said that the Speaker had recently encouraged Parliamentarian Sarath Fonseka to speak against Prliamentarian and former President Mahinda Rajapaksa.

“Fonseka spoke in Parliament recently by reading a prepared speech. This led to a situation in Parliament. He made several claims. He spoke against Mahinda Rajapaksa. But he cannot speak against another MP without having a substantive motion,” Gunawardena said.

He said the Speaker however allowed Fonseka to speak in violation of the Standing Orders of Parliament. (Colombo Gazette)
