Former President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga, the Chairperson of the Office for National Unity and Reconciliation (ONUR), will represent the Government of Sri Lanka at a Special Session of the United `Nations General Assembly to be held on 10th.& 11th of May 2016 at the UN Headquarters in New York.
Kumaratunga will speak on the reconciliation work being carried out by the Government of Sri Lanka in her speech titled “Leading by Example: Innovative Partnerships and Responses”.
The High-Level Thematic Debate on Challenges to International Peace and Security, under the theme “In a World of Risks: A New Commitment for Peace”, is organised by the President of the General Assembly, Mogens Lykketoft, and will be attended by representatives of UN Member States, Observers, UN entities, Civil Society and Research Institutions.
