Canada and Sri Lanka discuss cooperation between MPs

Sri Lanka?s High Commissioner to Canada Ahmed Jawad met with Geoff Regan, the Speaker of the House of Commons and discussed opportunities for further developing cooperation between the Sri Lankan and Canadian?Members of Parliament (MP), the Sri Lankan High Commission in Canada said.

The deeply strained relations between Sri Lanka and Canada were?given a fresh start following talks between President Maithripala Sirisena and Canadian Prime Minister?Justin Trudeau in Malta last year.

Canada?s relationship with Sri Lanka under former President Mahinda Rajapaksa was on rocky ground as a result of human rights concerns in Sri Lanka. (Colombo Gazette)
